The City of Chesapeake’s Department of Human Services seeks a visionary and dedicated Family Services Supervisor to lead a team of professionals committed to supporting individuals and families facing challenges related to poverty, abuse, and neglect. The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the provision of essential services to vulnerable adults, aged 60 years or older, or those aged 18 to 59 and incapacitated. This encompasses a wide range of programs, including Long-Term Care Screenings, Adult Protective Services, Guardianship case management, and various support initiatives designed to strengthen families within Chesapeake.

  • Provide visionary leadership to a team of Family Service Specialists, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Oversee program budgeting, planning, monitoring, evaluation, and compliance with state and local mandates.

  • Collaborate with external agencies, organizations, and courts to facilitate comprehensive client services.
  • Conduct interviews, investigations, assessments, and implement action plans while maintaining accurate documentation of progress.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Sociology) or related area.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant full-time experience in a human services-related capacity.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and compliance with City Driving Standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience in Adult Services/Adult Protective Services within a public social services agency or related setting.
  • Four years of supervisory experience in a social services agency working with adults aged 60 years and older, and individuals aged 18-59 with disabilities.
  • Two years of experience with Child Protective Services.
  • Master’s in Social Work/Human Services or Bachelor’s in Social Work/Human Services is preferred.
